I chose to write my weekly extra based on these portraits by Steve McCurry because I have always been interested in different cultures. I think that his photos truly show how diverse the world is and through these images, you are able to clearly see aspects of all cultures. Some of his work reminded me of my final project for freshman year. I decided to dress up my sister Nell as if she was Indian, American Indian, and African. Just by using different makeup and clothing, I was able to completely transform her into multiple nationalities. My pictures connect to McCurry’s because both show how clothing, facial markings, and overall appearance differ depending on the culture.
